It is - in fact - the lowercase of the alphabet "L". Eventually most of the computers I dealt with were migrated to Windows 7.  Then I decided to clean up my work area and throw out some old papers. however, i just system restored the *******, and that fixed it. Of course the regular Show Desktop in the lower right corner as well. Now name it Show Desktop.exe and click Yes when the warning message comes up.
